The ice is out on Lake Temagami as of April 29, 2017. Let the canoe tripping season begin!
For people embarking on early-season canoe trips, please keep in mind that the water is EXTREMELY COLD and hovering just above zero. Wear your PFDs, carry a full set of waterproofed warm clothes, and dress for the swim, not the air temperature. Water levels are also very high due to heavy rainfall and the spring melt, so portage takeouts and put-ins might be partially submerged or difficult to access, especially around rapids and waterfalls.
Happy paddling!
