Temagami is home to the world’s largest old-growth red and white pine forests. For over 20 years, FOT has been advocating for improved forest management in the Temagami area.
- Larger buffers on canoe routes and portages
- Less clearcutting next to provincial parks
- Improved old-growth forest conservation
- Decommissioning unused forest access roads
Our efforts have made a real difference in these areas:
- Won a substantial no-cut zone around Spirit Rock, northeast of Obabika Lake
- Shut down proposal to open Wolf Lake Forest Reserve to logging
- Stopped new bridge across last roadless section of Sturgeon River – Twice
- Negotiated better protection for Makobe River and Sturgeon River parks
- Established buffers on Willow Island Creek canoe route, among others
